Talladega Municipal Golf Course

Heron Lakes Country Club - Heron Lakes Mobile, Alabama

The 18 hole course was designed in 1954 by Harold Stallings. The Heron Lakes subdivision started in 2000, allowed course designer Earl Stone to create four new challenging holes surrounded by six lakes. Heron Lakes CC renovated all 18 greens in 2004, converting to Champion Bermuda grass. 

The low handicap golfer will find himself challenged as the 6808 yard layout places a premium on driving accuracy. The Champion Bermuda greens, considered by many to be the best in the region, will test any golfer putting from a poorly struck approach.

Golfers of all levels will always be able to find a game to their liking as four sets of tees ensure enjoyment for all.

Competitive and social players will both enjoy the tournament schedule. The event calendar includes the 4th of July Firecracker Invitational, the November Night Light Scramble, Winter Invitational, The Almost Every Thursday Businessman’s 9- hole 2-Man Best Ball, Club Championships for Men and Ladies, Heron Lakes Ladies Invitational, Senior Invitational, Match Play Championship and Family Golf Tournaments.

Shoal Creek

One of the nicest par 3's you will ever play. This hole plays downhill, as do many at Shoal Creek. A small pond, front left of the green, adds to the challenge, as does the large bunker flanking the entire right side protecting the most difficult of all hole locations- back right of the green.

Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort

Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort is as unique as Lookout Mountain itself. Since 1970, advanced snowmaking equipment and patient professional instruction have provided Cloudmont’s ski expansion to include two one-thousand foot, beginner-intermediate slopes. Two “pony lifts” take skiers to the top of the slopes that have an elevation of 1,800 feet and a vertical rise of 150 feet.

Glittering snow comes to Cloudmont as soon as cold overnight temperatures drop to 28 degrees or colder, which allows snowmaking to commence. Quality machine-made snow provides a deep base to hold the snow through the warmer days with snow grooming equipment used when necessary.

Cloudmont Ski Resort is open daily during season – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and nightly from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., weather conditions permitting.

The beginner or experienced skier is comfortable at Cloudmont. Even if you’ve never been on skis, a few hours of expert guidance from our instructors and you’re sailing down the slopes like you have been doing it all of your life. The American Teaching Method has been used to teach thousands.

Roebuck Golf Course

THE COURSE

Roebuck opened in 1914 as a nine-holer - the other nine holes were added in 1924 - and is believed to be Alabama's oldest municipal golf course. The course was closed for a brief time in the 1960s, and it was in pretty bad shape for a long time after being re-opened. Those days are gone, thanks to the efforts of Anthony Cardwell, Dr. Jesse Lewis, Joe Yarborough and Pat Samford. The foursome lead the development team that is trying to restore Roebuck to its original luster, in time for its 100th anniversary. The course has seen its share of stars over the years - Bobby Jones played there, and former LPGA player Jo Ann Prentice called Roebuck home. The course is in good shape and is getting better every year. The course stretches to just 6,355 yards, so length is not key but accuracy is. The third hole, a dogleg right par-4 (265-347 yards) is a good example, as a drive too far left or too long will find the rough and perhaps the trees. The second shot plays to an elevated green. I enjoy the par-5s, particularly the fourth (484-566 yards), which plays downhill with a creek coming into play on second shots and bunkers guarding either side of the green. The 11th is a strong par-4 (295-366 yards), requiring an accurate tee shot through a narrow chute of trees. The one problem I have with the layout at Roebuck is somewhat beyond its control. A couple of holes - the sixth and 11th - sit too close to the road. The edge of the 11th green is just six feet from a fence protecting drivers in the area.

Roland Cooper State Park Golf Club

Rolling along the 22,000-acre Dannelly Reservoir, Roland Cooper State Park's 236-acre park features a nine-hole golf course with clubhouse, spacious vacation cottages, modern campground with bathhouse and laundry, and a scenic picnic area with tables, grills, pavilions and comfort station. With fishing so popular in the reservoir, the park also provides boat launching facilities.
