• Earl Fry North Course is an 18-hole, parkland course with tree-lined fairways. Originally designed in 1927 by William Park Bell and partially redesigned by Desmond Muirhead in 1967. It’s a little shorter than the Jack Clark South Course, features more dog legs and has water is in play on 13 holes. This course is a lot of fun to play and is the local resident favorite. • Jack Clark South Course is an 18-hole, links-style course that is more open off the tee and a little more exposed to wind, known to be the more challenging of the two 18-hole courses. Originally designed by William Francis Bell in 1957 and partially redesigned by Robert Muir Graves in 1977. The future for the South Course gets even brighter… plans are underway by Greenway Golf to have another renovation, this time by world-famous golf architect Rees Jones! When completed, Alameda will have the only Rees Jones-designed course in the East Bay Area. (Keep reading for playing tips from one of our pros!).
• Mif Albright Par 3 Course: An enjoyable 9-hole, par-3 course that plays from 47-196 yards each hole. It’s great for beginners, juniors, seniors, short-game practice or just quick fun with friends. What most people don’t know about the Mif is that it was designed and built by our own maintenance staff! Talk about dedication and love for your golf course. The Mif is currently closed for renovation with plans to reopen in September.

Rating in the top 10 golf resorts in Northern California, Lake Shastina Golf Resort is the last course designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior and Senior as a father and son team. Our resort offers a challenging 18-hole championship, par 72 golf course. The championship blue tees stretch to a difficult 6933 yards, offering plenty of challenging shots. The gold and white tees are a manageable 6536 yards and 6258 yards respectively. This great golf getaway is one of the hidden gems of Northern California. Shastina also offers an outstanding 9 hole, 3009 yard, par 35 Scottish links course that provides plenty of challenging play for those who enjoy a faster game. The layout is defined by the natural beauty that is created by steep elevation changes carved into tree-lined lush green fairways. The course is known across the Bay Area as a tough, but very fair test of golf, on a course that is the crown jewel of the world-class Lake Merced Golf Club experience. The course however, like our club itself, has undergone many changes in its lifetime.

Lake Merced Golf Club exists today because of the passionate pride the members have always had for the quality of the golf course. In July of 1923 Lake Merced Golf Club opened for play on what was universally regarded to as a masterpiece creation of Willie Lock, the original designer. In 1929, Dr. Alister MacKenzie, architect of Augusta National, was retained to improve the sand traps and areas around the greens. The result improved on what was already considered one of Northern California’s greatest golf course design achievements.

In the 1960’s, Lake Merced Golf Club yielded to the advancing Interstate 280. Robert Muir Graves re-routed the course beautifully, and the result is the foundation of the current design. Evidence of the elite caliber of the course can be found in the numerous championships we have proudly hosted. These championships include many NCGA Championships and US Open sectional qualifiers. Lake Merced Golf Club also has the distinction of the being the site of Tiger Woods’ USGA Championship debut, when he competed in the 1990 USGA Junior.

Finally, in 1996, the final revision of our golf course was completed when Rees Jones was brought in to repair a developing drainage problem. Rees Jones is the acclaimed “US Open Doctor,” a moniker he earned by preparing championship golf courses for US Open competition. Rees Jones continues to serve as custodian to the long-term Master Plan of Lake Merced Golf Club.

Since 1923, generations of Lake Merced Golf Club members have walked these verdant fairways, proud to be part the rich history carved into this old Sand Dune beside the Pacific Ocean. We welcome our guests and prospective members to come enjoy our great golf course with us.

Lake Arrowhead Country Club - Lake Arrowhead Lake Arrowhead, California

The Course

Golf in Lake Arrowhead dates back to the 1930's when the rolling pastureland of Grass Valley was molded into nine holes of bucolic golf. In the early 1960's the back nine was carved out of nearby hills and ravines that serpentine away from the clubhouse and then back. 

The front nine plays open with lakes and streams that challenge errant shot making. The undulating back nine plays tight with wayward shots sternly punished by fall offs and dense woodland. 

Unlike the nearby desert courses in Palm Springs, where gentle nature has been overlaid on a harsh wasteland, at Lake Arrowhead Country Club the golfer feels he is one with nature, a privileged visitor, passing through a very special natural place. Lake Almanor West is a 615 acre community located on the west shore of scenic Lake Almanor, adjacent to California State Highway 89 a few 

miles southwest of the town of Chester. In addition to the approximately 700 residential lots, the development
